The
Lady of Khartoum Reviewed in The Penguin Guide to Jazz
The ninth edition of the revered Penguin
Guide to Jazz Recordings, released in December, features
an exciting new entry about the Fewell/Hofbauer Duo's The
Lady of Khartoum (filed under Fewell's name). Author/editors
Richard Cook and Brian Morton declare, "this extraordinary
duo session makes most of Bill Frisell’s records seem one-dimensional."

Nathan Turk's long-awaited joint review of The
Lady of Khartoum and Myth
Understanding has finally been published in the newly arrived
Winter 2009 issue of Signal
To Noise. In it, he calls Eric Hofbauer & The Infrared
Band "a lithe, smart quartet" and credits the Fewell/Hofbauer
Duo with showing that "jazz’s family tree has some pretty
deep roots."

February Releases From Garrison Fewell and
Ayn Inserto
On February 17th, Creative Nation Music will kick-off the
celebration of its 5th anniversary with the release of two new recordings,
Garrison Fewell's
Variable Density Sound Orchestra (CNM 014) and The
Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra's Muse (CNM 015). This is
Fewell's second release for the label, following 2008's The
Lady of Khartoum (CNM 010) with fellow guitarist Eric Hofbauer,
and the label debut of Ms. Inserto's longstanding 17-piece ensemble
featuring special guest, George Garzone.
Creative Nation Music to Celebrate its 5th
Anniversary in 2009
Back in early 2004, CNM Productions started actively releasing
new recordings from Boston's best local jazz talent under the Creative
Nation Music banner. In 2009, we will celebrate our 5th anniversary
as a label. We'll be marking this milestone with a variety of events
and new releases, so please stay tuned for more news as it becomes
available.
